The Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an experienced litigator to serve as Section Chief of the Judgment Enforcement Team (JET), located in Albany. JET is a new unit within the Civil Recoveries Bureau (CVB) that is responsible for large-dollar, complex, and high-profile judgment enforcement on behalf of all OAG bureaus. The unit's primary objective is to enforce money judgments with expert efficiency and maximize the recovery of monies owed to the state. By concentrating resources within a dedicated team, CVB will streamline the enforcement process, strengthen deterrence against misconduct, and enhance outcomes for the people of New York.

To fulfill its mission, JET will take the following actions:

  • Apply expertise in CPLR Article 52, Debtor and Creditor Law, fraudulent conveyance claims, and all available legal avenues to accomplish its judgment enforcement objectives.
  • Investigate and uncover hidden assets.
  • Initiate, negotiate, or advise on post-judgment litigation necessary to seize or disgorge monies held by judgment debtors, or collaborators.
  • Provide litigation support and specialized expertise to other OAG bureaus.

Duties:

  • Manage the JET caseload and direct the work of the team.
  • Supervise a team of two (2) Assistant Attorneys General, one (1) Principal Accountant, one (1) Legal Assistant, and one (1) Administrative Assistant.
  • Maintain an active caseload of judgment enforcement litigation and related duties, appropriately adjusted to allow for supervisory responsibilities.
  • Oversee litigation strategy, enforcement actions, and case management for the unit.
  • Regularly provide advice, training, and support to the unit's attorneys and support staff.
  • Coordinate with other OAG bureaus to share expertise and provide support.

Qualifications:

  • At least ten (10) years of legal experience.
  • Significant experience and expertise in judgment enforcement, debtor/creditor law, and related litigation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large, complex caseload effectively.
  • Excellent legal analysis, research, and writing skills.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal communication, problem solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Comfort with and proficiency using technology to complete legal work, including knowledge of and experience with various computer, case management, and electronic discovery platforms.
  • Admission to practice in Federal District Court/prior Bankruptcy Court experience is required.
  • Prior experience supervising and/or mentoring attorneys and support staff is preferred.
  • Admission to the state bars of Connecticut, New Jersey, and/or Delaware is desirable.

Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York state and be admitted to practice law in New York state. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that OAG attorneys be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.

The salary range for this position is $160,713 - $183,926. The final salary will be set after a complete evaluation of the selected candidate's qualifications. As an employee of OAG, you will join a team of dedicated individuals who work to serve the people of our state through a wide variety of occupations. We offer a comprehensive New York state benefits package, including paid leave, health, dental, vision, and retirement benefits, and family-friendly policies. Additionally, OAG offers a robust Workplace Flexibilities Program with multiple options for employees, including telecommuting (up to two days per week) and alternative work schedules.

Candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The OAG is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to workplace diversity.
