Duties The Criminal Investigator plans and conducts investigations relative to criminal statutes of tax administration and financial crimes, including handling information that may involve Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) or Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP). Work includes analyzing complex accounting problems and cross-jurisdictional cases involving multiple entities and international transfers of funds. Performs other investigative and enforcement duties, such as testifying as a government witness, assisting the U.S. Attorney, and conducting collateral inquiries. Obtains, evaluates, integrates, and recommends action on information to identify large areas of noncompliance (e.g., major professions, occupations, industries, or wide geographic areas). Requirements Conditions of employment: Must be a U.S. citizen or national. Medical requirements, physical standards, and vision/hearing standards apply. Must pass a medical examination prior to appointment and meet all medical requirements at the time of initial examination/test. Qualifications: BASIC REQUIREMENTS GL-07: One year of specialized experience at GL-05 or equivalent in a related investigation of criminal violations (e.g., suspected fraud) with duties including collecting, assembling, and developing facts; ability to prepare reports and presentations; ability to analyze and evaluate evidence in accounting/auditing contexts. OR Education substitution: One year of graduate education with at least 15 semester hours in accounting plus 9 semester hours in related fields. OR Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) criteria described in the announcement. GL-09: One year of specialized experience at GL-07 or equivalent, with duties including investigation of criminal violations related to accounting or auditing of business or commercial practices; ability to gather intelligence, analyze data, prepare investigations, and handle complex cases; substitution options with graduate education as described in the announcement.
