A description of the business units can be found at the agency. The Criminal Investigator plans and conducts investigations relative to criminal statutes of tax administration and financial crimes, which may require access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP), and other related offenses, which vary in levels or complexity. The work involves investigations analyzing precedent setting legal or investigative questions, complex or unusual accounting problems. The Criminal Investigator analyzes information obtained from diversified sources gathered over a wide section of the country; situations where the interrelationship of facts and evidence identification is difficult because of the numerous holding companies, entities, etc., involved; and cases including a mixture of legal and illegal activities; international transfers of funds; working with DOJ and IRS Foreign country attaches to obtain records; and cryptocurrency investigations. Performs other investigative and enforcement duties such as testifying as a Government witness, assisting the U.S. Attorney during the preparation of cases for trial, and conducting collateral inquiries. Obtains, evaluates, integrates, and recommends action on information items to identify large areas of noncompliance (e.g., major profession, occupation, industry, or wide geographic area). This position has career progression. If selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-05, but if the position has career progression to GS-11, you may move from GS-05 to GS-11 in as little as three years. Requirements Conditions of employment Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. Qualifications Federal experience is not required. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is prorated. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

GL-07 LEVEL: One year of specialized experience at the GL-05 level in the Federal service related to investigation of criminal violations (e.g., suspected crimes or alleged fraud) and accounting/auditing of business or commercial practices. Must demonstrate tact, initiative, judgment, interviewing, and ability to prepare reports and analyze evidence. OR Education: One full year of graduate-level education with at least 15 semester/23 quarter hours in accounting plus 9 semester/14 quarter hours in related fields (business law, economics, finance, tax law, money and banking). Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) criteria may apply as detailed in the announcement. GL-09 LEVEL: One year of specialized experience at the GL-07 level, including investigative work related to accounting or auditing of business or commercial practices, gathering intelligence, analyzing data, preparing comprehensive reports, and investigating complex fraud cases. Education substitutions are allowed as described in the notice. Special requirements MAXIMUM ENTRY AGE: Age restrictions apply as described in the notice.
