Duties The Criminal Investigator plans and conducts investigations relative to criminal statutes of tax administration and financial crimes. Work may involve access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) or Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP). Addresses complex accounting problems and interrelationships of facts across diverse sources, including international aspects. Performs other investigative and enforcement duties such as testifying as a Government witness, assisting the U.S. Attorney, and conducting collateral inquiries. Obtains, evaluates, and integrates information to identify large areas of noncompliance across professions, occupations, or geographies. Qualifications and Basic Requirements Basic requirements by grade level: GL-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GL-05 in the Federal service in investigative work related to accounting or auditing of business or commercial practices; ability to interview, report, present findings, analyze and evaluate evidence. Educational substitutions: graduate-level accounting-related coursework or Superior Academic Achievement as specified; see listing in the original notice. GL-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GL-07 in investigative work related to accounting/auditing; ability to gather intelligence, analyze data, prepare reports, and handle complex fraud investigations. Educational substitutions allowed as noted in the original posting. Special requirements include maximum entry age limits, medical and physical fitness requirements, and ability to carry firearms and complete FBI/FLETA training as applicable. All medical requirements must be met at time of initial examination/test. Education Submit transcripts if education is used to meet requirements. Foreign education may be used if credentials are deemed equivalent to U.S. education. Official transcripts required if selected. Additional Information Probationary period of three years; performance and conduct will be evaluated. This is a non-bargaining unit position; LEAP pay may apply. Drive/relocation and mobility requirements apply; a valid state driver’s license is required. Carry/use a firearm; maintain firearm proficiency. Complete the Special Agent Basic Training Curriculum, or have it verified if previously completed.
