Locations: 96 vacancies in multiple locations across the United States (list of locations provided in the posting). Duties The Criminal Investigator plans and conducts investigations relative to criminal statutes of tax administration and financial crimes. Duties may involve access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) or Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP) and other related offenses, and include working with DOJ and IRS foreign country attaches to obtain records, and cryptocurrency investigations. Performs other investigative and enforcement duties such as testifying as a Government witness, assisting the U.S. Attorney during trial preparation, and conducting collateral inquiries. Obtains, evaluates, integrates, and recommends action on information items to identify large areas of noncompliance (e.g., major profession, occupation, industry, or wide geographic area). This position has career progression. If you are hired at a lower grade, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses (e.g., from GS-05 to GS-11 in about three years). Requirements Conditions of employment Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of citizenship. Qualifications Federal experience is not required. The announcement describes BASIC and/or ADVANCED requirements for GL-07 and GL-09 levels. BASIC REQUIREMENTS include one year of specialized experience or education related to investigation of criminal violations (e.g., fraud) with the ability to collect, assess, and present evidence; the ability to analyze and evaluate evidence; and familiarity with accounting or auditing of business practices. Education substitutions are described (graduate level education with accounting coursework or Superior Academic Achievement). ADVANCED (GL-09) requirements require one year of specialized experience equivalent to GL-07, including ability to investigate complex claims and supervise or conduct interviews; education substitutions are allowed with specific accounting/finance coursework. Special requirements include maximum entry age (subject to public laws), medical requirements, physical fitness, vision and hearing standards, and the requirement to maintain a high-risk security clearance. Education For positions with an education requirement or substitutions, submit transcripts. Foreign education may be used if credentials are deemed equivalent to U.S. education; provide evidence of equivalence. Additional information Probationary period of 3 years may apply. This is a non-bargaining unit position with LEAP pay available. You must reside within proximity to duty location for certain benefits. You may be required to carry a firearm and complete the Special Agent Basic Training Curriculum at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (Glynco, GA) or provide verification of equivalent training.
