Job Description
As a member of the R&D Executive Leadership Team, this role holds a key leadership position within the R&D organizations of the CSL Enterprise. In this leadership role, you will develop, implement, and maintain a forward-thinking Research Immunology/Transplant strategy and Vaccines strategy, aligned with the overarching Therapeutic Leadership Teams for T&I and Vaccines.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop strategies to mitigate disruptive innovation for the plasma-derived Ig product portfolio.
- Contribute proactively to all 5 TA strategies where immunology is a key driver.
- Generate scientific insights using internal and external expertise to support project progression and lifecycle management for R&D and commercial products.
- Oversee CSL's interactions with multi-national government authorities relevant to vaccine product development and maintenance.
Strategic Leadership:
- Accountable for the Immunology & Transplant project portfolio, ensuring its development aligns with CSL's therapeutic strategy.
- Oversee new research projects from target identification to lead discovery and IND studies.
- Provide scientific leadership and advice on Immunology/Transplant topics and cross-TA opportunities.
- Drive drug discovery efforts to develop a commercial portfolio supporting CSL's vision as a leading plasma biotech company.
Team Management:
- Lead a team of scientific SMEs, including Research Product Leads & Disease Area experts, to develop strategies and manage projects.
- Work in a matrix environment with heads of drug development functions to ensure project delivery.
Research and Development:
- Identify novel targets, pathways, and therapeutic approaches in Immunology & Transplantation.
- Ensure experimental design, data integrity, and scientific rigor across programs.
- Foster a culture of scientific excellence and continuous learning.
- Translate scientific discoveries into viable therapeutic candidates addressing unmet medical needs.
External Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with academic institutions, biotech partners, CROs, and KOLs.
- Represent CSL at scientific conferences, advisory boards, and collaborations.
- Identify external innovation opportunities, including licensing, partnerships, and acquisitions.
- Serve as a scientific ambassador for CSL's Immunology/Transplant research strategy.
Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure research activities comply with policies, standards, and regulations.
- Partner with QA and Regulatory teams for IND submissions and interactions.
- Maintain accurate documentation of research activities.
- Promote a culture of compliance, safety, and continuous improvement.
Innovation and Technology:
- Champion adoption of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies.
- Evaluate and implement digital tools, AI/ML, high-throughput systems.
- Encourage a forward-looking mindset embracing scientific advancements.
- Lead exploration of emerging trends and disruptive innovations.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Over 15 years of international experience, with at least 10 in senior R&D leadership roles in Pharma/Biotech.
- Experience in strategic initiatives and end-to-end R&D development.
- Strong external network with academic and industry partners.
Travel Requirements:
This role requires 25-30% travel across various locations.
