Benefits :

Summary of Position :

The IT QA Tester II is an experienced quality assurance professional who independently designs and executes comprehensive test plans for complex features. This role focuses on functional and exploratory testing while supporting test automation efforts. The IT QA Tester II demonstrates strong domain knowledge, mentors junior testers, and ensures software quality through thorough manual testing from the user's perspective.

Essential Functions :

Test Planning & Design (25%)

• Analyze requirements and user stories to identify test scenarios
• Design comprehensive test cases covering functional, edge, and negative scenarios
• Create test plans for features, user stories, and releases
• Identify test coverage gaps and recommend improvements
• Estimate testing effort for sprint planning
• Define acceptance criteria with product owners
• Design test data strategies for complex scenarios

Test Execution & Exploratory Testing (40%)

• Execute complex manual test cases independently
• Perform thorough exploratory testing to uncover edge cases
• Conduct end-to-end testing of critical user workflows
• Test integrations between systems and components
• Perform cross-browser and cross-device compatibility testing
• Execute user acceptance testing (UAT) scenarios
• Validate business logic and calculations
• Test data migration and import/export functionality
• Conduct usability and accessibility testing

Defect Management & Quality Advocacy (20%)

• Identify, document, and triage defects with detailed reproduction steps
• Analyze defect patterns and root causes
• Advocate for quality throughout the development process
• Collaborate with developers to resolve complex issues
• Verify bug fixes and perform thorough regression testing
• Provide quality metrics and testing status updates
• Assess quality readiness for releases

Automation Support (10%)

• Execute automated regression test suites
• Maintain and update existing automated test scripts
• Document automation test failures for investigation
• Provide input on automation test case selection
• May write basic automation scripts with support
• Assist QA Engineers with test data preparation

Mentorship & Collaboration (5%)

• Mentor QA Tester I team members
• Review test cases created by junior testers
• Share testing techniques and best practices
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Contribute to process improvements

Work Environment :

This position is based in a professional office setting and regularly utilizes workplace technology, including computers, smartphones, multifunction printers, cloud-based filing systems, and collaboration tools.

Physical Demands :

This role requires physical capabilities that support the successful execution of key responsibilities. The employee regularly engages in verbal and written communication with colleagues and clients to address project-related inquiries and must be able to convey accurate information clearly and efficiently. The position involves remaining seated at a workstation for approximately 75% of the time, with occasional movement throughout the office to access equipment, supplies, and shared resources. Daily tasks include consistent use of computers and standard office technology such as keyboards, printers, and multifunction devices. The role also involves transporting equipment boxes weighing up to 25 pounds within the building and to other offsite locations as needed for project support.

Required Education and Experience :

• High School Diploma or general equivalent
• 3-5 years of software testing experience

Qualifications :

• Strong understanding of testing methodologies
• Proficient in test case design techniques
• Expert in exploratory testing strategies
• Experience with various testing types (functional, regression, integration, UAT)
• Understanding of test coverage and risk-based testing
• Strong domain knowledge in relevant business areas
• SQL for data validation and verification
• Basic understanding of APIs and web services
• Browser developer tools for basic debugging
• Understanding of HTML/CSS for element identification
• Basic scripting ability (nice to have)
• Comfortable with test management and defect tracking tools
• Test management tools (Jira, TestRail, qTest, Zephyr)
• Bug tracking systems (Jira, Azure DevOps)
• API testing tools (Postman basics)
• Screen recording and documentation tools
• Collaboration tools (Slack, Teams, Confluence)
