Liquor Store Manager — Job Description

Compensation: $25–$30/hour

Schedule: Full-time, primarily evening and weekend availability required

Location: Harlem, NY

Position Summary:

The Liquor Store Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring the store runs efficiently, securely, and is profitable. This role requires strong judgment, reliability, and leadership. The manager must protect company assets, maintain inventory accuracy, supervise staff, and create a safe, compliant environment for customers and employees.

This is a hands-on role intended for someone who treats the store as if it were their own business.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Store Operations & Security

  • Serve as the primary keyholder; ensure the store is opened and closed properly.
  • Enforce all security procedures (behind-the-glass regulations, door locks, surveillance monitoring).
  • Prevent safety and liability risks by ensuring the store is never left unmanned.
  • Respond to emergencies or unexpected issues quickly and professionally.

2. Inventory Management

  • Track stock levels and report discrepancies.
  • Oversee deliveries and ensure accurate receiving.
  • Prevent loss through consistent checks and compliance with inventory protocols.
  • Maintain storage areas and ensure proper rotation of merchandise.

3. Staff Leadership

  • Supervise daily employee activities.
  • Maintain coverage schedules and manage shift changes.
  • Train staff in store procedures, customer service, and safety.
  • Hold employees accountable for performance expectations.

4. Customer Service

  • Address customer concerns professionally, and Resolve escalated customer complaints.
  • Maintain a clean, organized store both inside and outside (to the curb), for staff, customers and pedestrians.
  • Ensure customers are carded appropriately and compliance is followed at all times.

5. Compliance & Licensing

  • Follow all NY liquor retail laws, ID requirements, and store policies.
  • Ensure recordings, logs, and paperwork are maintained accurately.

6. Financial Responsibility

  • Monitor cash handling and POS accuracy.
  • Protect assets and minimize shrinkage.
  • Support owners with reports on sales, inventory, and labor costs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Prior retail or liquor store management experience preferred.
  • Strong judgment and ability to respond calmly to unexpected events.
  • Excellent reliability — must demonstrate consistent attendance and follow-through.
  • Ability to supervise staff confidently and fairly.
  • Comfortable making decisions and taking responsibility for outcomes.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong leadership qualities
