UPMC Altoona is excited to offer a Night Program for RNs! For working night shift, you may receive an additional $2/hour on top of the off-shift differential ($2) for actual hours worked within the night program guidelines. Must have completed orientation period and have at least 6 months of registered nurse experience to participate. About UPMC Magee Women’s Birthing Center (T9):  T9 is a 22-bed multidisciplinary unit that contains its own triage and Operating Rooms. Patients labor, birth, recover and have their postpartum stay in the same unit permitting continuity of patient care throughout their hospital stay promoting skin to skin, support of breastfeeding, delayed bathing, and infant rooming-in. Within the unit is a 4-bed triage area for maternal monitoring of baby and evaluation of emergent obstetrical situations and concerns. Nurses are trained in labor and delivery, how to circulate in the OR for cesarean sections, care of the infant and mother postpartum, triaging patients, and neonatal resuscitation after delivery. Neonates may need to transition in our 8-bed special care nursery, currently caring for neonates 35 weeks and greater.

    • Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience.

  • Generous Sign-On Bonus of up to $7,500.

    • $7,500 sign-on bonus available for nurses with 1 or more years of experience.

    • Candidates hired into a sign-on bonus eligible role will be asked to make a two-year work commitment.

As a member of this team, you will provide direct and indirect care to patients utilizing the nursing process. You will also provide leadership for the nursing team and contribute to the education of a variety of members of the staff and students.

Responsibilities: \n

Patient Care

\n
    \n
  • Provide Direct Care: Use nursing protocols and standards to perform and document procedures safely and accurately. Administer medications and IV therapy following policy.

  • \n
  • Assess and Reassess: Evaluate and document patient and family needs. Reassess patients every eight hours or as needed.

  • \n
  • Plan Care: Involve patients and families in creating care plans. Prioritize needs, conduct care conferences, and maintain up-to-date care plans. Coordinate with community agencies and other professionals.

Coordination and Communication

  • Engage in Team Discussions: Work with medical staff and other professionals to discuss and develop patient care plans.

  • Utilize Systems: Use Bed Management System, Alpha, CPOE, and other relevant computer systems efficiently.

Education and Leadership

  • Teach and Educate: Initiate health teaching for patients and families based on their needs. Contribute to the education of staff and students.

  • Consult and Lead: Offer guidance and support to other healthcare team members. Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.

Safety and Compliance

  • Follow Precautions: Adhere to universal precautions and occupational exposure policies. Identify and address potential problems and environmental factors affecting patient care.

  • \n
  • Maintain Competency: Complete annual competency validation and stay proficient in point-of-care testing as per lab criteria.

  • \n

Education and Formal Training Required:

    \n
  • Must hold a current license to practice nursing in the State of Pennsylvania; must satisfactorily complete the Nursing Department's orientation program and probationary period.
  • \n
  • Must complete NIHSS education prior to end of orientation period, if required. 
  • \n
\n

When assigned to LDRP:

\n
    \n
  • One year hospital nursing/LDRP-Nursery preferred.

  • \n
  • ACLS and Neonatal Resuscitation preferred or must be obtained within12 months. BLS required. 

  • \n
  • Must complete the Trauma Nurse Course and Fetal Monitoring Course within two years.

  • \n
  • Must complete the Stable Course within one year.

  • \n
  • Must maintain six trauma competencies per year.
  • \n
\n


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • \n
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • \n
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • \n
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • \n
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • \n
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • \n
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
  • \n
\n

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
