The Denver Public Library (DPL) is hiring a Night Shift Security Officer to work at the Central Library in downtown Denver to help create positive experiences for library customers by maintaining a safe and secure environment for customers and staff. The position includes on the job training with certification in First Aid, CPR, AED usage, Narcan usage, defensive tactics, and verbal de-escalation training. The Security Department operates 24/7, and this position works night shifts between 10:30PM - 7AM or 12:00AM to 8:30AM with a 12% shift differential bonus. Responsibilities include providing a safe and welcoming environment, knowledge of safety and security in a public setting, emergency procedures, and ability to use workplace technology. Candidates must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, problem-solving abilities, and skill in de-escalation and positive communication. The role requires passing physical and mental fitness exams, background checks, and obtaining an unarmed security guard license issued by the City and County of Denver. Preferred experience includes Trauma Informed Care or Mental Health First Aid and one year of security or loss prevention experience. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, one year of security experience, a valid Driver’s License, an Unarmed Business Guard License, and current first aid and CPR certification. Licenses and certifications must be maintained as a condition of employment.
