Vascular Access Registered Nurse (RN) Full Time Days Base pay range: $70.57/hr - $95.29/hr Job Summary The Vascular Access Registered Nurse (RN) provides consultation and treatment for placement of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC), midline catheters, and ultrasound‑guided peripheral IVs, practicing in an evidence‑based manner within the scope of the California Nursing Practice Act, regulatory requirements, standards of care, and hospital policies. The RN evaluates and inserts advanced vascular access devices for patients who are unable to maintain a peripheral IV or require long‑term therapy. Essential Functions Assess patients with difficult access or long‑term IV therapy needs and determine the appropriate vascular access device. Collaborate with staff nurses, physicians, case managers, and other team members to ensure early assessment for VAD selection and implementation. Participate in education of patients, families, and staff regarding vascular access care. Review physician orders and obtain informed consent. Review medical records to identify contraindications for peripheral vascular access. Place Vascular Access Devices (PICC, midline, or ultrasound‑guided peripheral IV) or recommend alternate access methods. Report directly to the patient’s primary nurse, charge nurse, or physician as needed. Troubleshoot complications of VADs and assist staff in resolution. Perform all central line dressing changes on a weekly cadence. Document all procedures accurately and completely in the patient’s medical record. Monitor patients for adverse responses and side effects of interventions. Educate patients and families on self‑care and illness prevention related to vascular access. Communicate ethical or legal concerns to appropriate authorities and complete incident reports when necessary. Attend departmental and hospital committee meetings as assigned. Support achievement of departmental strategic and organizational goals. Job Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, BSN preferred. Successfully completed theoretical coursework and supervised practicum. Experience Minimum of two years prior acute‑care RN experience. Minimum of one year caring for patients with central venous access devices. Competency in placement of vascular access devices. Licenses and Certifications Current California RN license. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS). Vascular Access Board Certification (VA‑BC) within one year of hire. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong communication skills; ability to read, write, and understand English. Attention to detail and problem‑solving ability. Ability to use information and stay abreast of technological developments in patient care. Ability to work autonomously and as a valued team member. Ability to prioritize tasks to provide high‑quality patient care. Knowledge of principles, practices, and current trends in health care and hospital system organization.
