Camp Cristina Equestrian Custodian - Stable Hand Under the direction of the Senior Program Director and Executive Director, provide feed and maintain a clean and safe equestrian environment to ensure the comfort and pleasure of YMCA patrons and animals throughout the Equestrian Facility. Essential Functions And Responsibilities Feeds and cares for animals on the schedule set by the Program Director in accordance with the guidance of our veterinarian. Ensures the safety and cleanliness of the equine facility, including removal of animal waste and clearing obstacles that may be harmful. Communicates with the Property Director regarding potential hazards, concerns, and reports incidents that may need follow‑up to the Senior Program Director or Executive Director. Suggests and initiates actions to improve facility appearance and cleanliness. Practices appropriate safety recommendations when handling and caring for the animals. Feeds and cares for animals; removes animal waste; manages waste and garbage removal. Performs additional functions or assumes additional responsibilities. Education / Experience Required Must be 16 years old. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to work in non‑climate controlled areas, outdoors in direct and indirect sunlight for extended periods in muggy, hot, and humid conditions. Must be able to work with a herd of horses and be comfortable haltering, leading, grooming, picking, and taking animals. Must be able to bend, reach, and crawl into various areas to care for animals and the facility. Must be comfortable shoveling and pushing wheelbarrows filled with animal waste (manure). Must be able to feed animals on their schedule. Must be able to work as part of a team as well as independently, exercising sound judgment and decision‑making. Must receive and follow directions. Certifications / Trainings Required Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within 30 days of employment and maintain current certifications. Maintain other required certifications as stated in the training matrix. Work Environment and Physical Demands Many duties require climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, standing, walking, shoveling, plowing, moving up to 50 pounds, with finger dexterity and repetitive motions. Work performed both indoors and outdoors; may require travel to various locations. Employee exposed to weather conditions prevailing at the time. Specific vision abilities required: close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work in extreme humidity/dampness, heat, and cold.
